Where do I start? - January 2008. A long time ago I took a bold step (which many people take) and moved to the Big Smoke - London! What an awesome move that was. Working in the contemporary art world, I experienced a lot; got involved with plenty; and learned even more. I would say these were some of the best years my life, so far.
As they say, all good things come to an end. After three and a half years, I made a move into areas unknown and started work in the Film industry. . . long hours, red carpets, horror movies for breakfast - another unforgettable period.
Gallery life, post production and all the parties in between… 10 years in London fuelled my fire to be something, to do something and to create. . .
So I left with the ideas, the experience and the knowledge, coupled with a belief that if I wanted something, then I could do it.
I always dreamt that I too would one day have something of my own, something I could be proud of and something with which I could be me. So, I started looking at bringing my interests, my experiences and my energy together to create what is now emslie.
The finer things in life are what make me happy. I want to be surrounded by pretty objects, pleasing curves, shapes and materials. Art works, kitchenware, furniture and all in-between from brands old and new.
In 2008 I was a young women, starting up and seeing the world from a different prospective. Back then I knew I wanted to have my own place; a gallery, a shop and studio, somewhere where I was able to make the decisions, call the shots and suffer or gain as a consequence. I knew then that I wanted to spend my days bringing what I love to others, sharing what I like and find with customers, friends and family.
Creating a vintage and contemporary homeware store seemed like the perfect opportunity.
There was always one other thing I dreamed of, a dog sat by my side at work. . . Edwina (aka Eddie) has stepped up to the plate and has been by my side as I build this website, buy the stock, take the photographs and pull my hair out when things aren’t as easy as I expected them to be. She is a cute, naughty little bean and is my little mascot. So, you will be seeing a lot of her; in fact, she has her own instagram account; so, follow that to see her perspective on this life we live… @edwinatheteddy
